Some former UNP members have alleged that Moragoda as a close confidante of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and a leading Minister, had enjoyed a privileged position in the party and his decision to leave the Cabinet when the party was facing a setback was cowardly, like a rat deserting a sinking ship. There were also many others reportedly critical of the Prime Minister for not trying to prevent dissolution, despite legal possibilities. Among them were Ministers Ravi Karunanayake, S. B.
