R. M. Abdul Cader for the post of chief organiser in the Gampola electorate. Minister Abdul Cader has threatened to retire from politics if he is not appointed as Chief Organiser for Gampola. He has told the UNP leadership that he was born and bred in Gampola and has made great sacrifices towards the party's well-being. Meanwhile Minister Kiriella has told the party leadership that Minister Cader has been unable to retain the Gampola seat at all elections since 1994 and that it was he who won the Gampola seat for the UNP at the 2001 General Election. He has already re-organised all branch unions and strengthened the UNP in Gampola electorate and he was not prepared to shift to another electorate. When Minister Kiriella resigned from the PA and joined the UNP in 2001, Minister Cader willingly handed over the Gampola electorate to him. Reports said the rivalry between these two stalwarts in the Kandy district had greatly inconvenienced the party leadership and demoralised its rank and file in the Gampola electorate. |
