Nationalised Services VB from today Nationalised Services Volleyball Championships organised by the Nationalised Services Volleyball Association starts today at Gampaha with the opening ceremony scheduled for 9.30 a.m. This year's championship has attracted four teams in Group A, twelve teams in Group B and six teams for Veterans over 40. Last year's winners Sri Lanka Ports Authority are favoured to grab the title this year too. The Nationalised Services Volleyball Association with an intention of promoting the game in the Gampaha area and to attract more spectators for the sport has also organised a championship for school boys and girls to be played alongside the main tourney. Already the organiser have received 22 entries from boys schools and 13 from girls schools. The finals of the boys championship is scheduled for 2.30 p.m. on Feb. 14 which will be followed by an exhibition volleyball match by the national spikers who are representing the country at the forthcoming SAF games. People's Bank Regional Office, Gampaha has come forward to sponsor the school events with trophies and cash awards for winners and runners-up. Lal Nanayakkara, Chairman, People's Bank and Mayor Gampaha, Ajith Mannapperuma will grace the occasion as chief guest and guest-of-honour and will present the awards. Additional General Manager, People's Bank, Regional Office, Gampaha, G. Rajapakse, W. G. Croos, Manager, Regional Office and Director Education, E. Gunaratne and Wimal Gamage, President, Siyane Tharu SC will participate at the opening ceremony. (BP) |
