News Business Features Editorial Security Politics World Letters Sports Obituaries | PPA accounts to be scrutinised by Anjana Gamage Funds collected by all Past Pupils' Associations of Government schools which are an additional source of income for many schools, will come under the close scrutiny of the Ministry of Education following allegations of widespread corruption and misuse of funds, especially in Colombo schools, Daily News learns. According to Ministry sources, more than 50 popular schools in Colombo are reported to be maintaining two sets of PPA accounts. Ministry sources said that Heads of all the National schools in the Western Province will be asked to submit the PPA accounts to the Ministry of Education for scrutiny. "We have received many complaints about the misuse of funds from PPA accounts in several leading schools in the Colombo district" said the source pointing out that schools should maintain only one set of accounts for its past pupils' association. "But we have come to know that principals of several leading schools in Colombo are maintaining two sets of accounts under the past pupils' association, with one set being handled by the respective principal", he said. |
