by Manjula Fernando Over 500 Medical students of the Colombo Medical Faculty demonstrated in front of the University Grants Commission yesterday to protest against the arbitrary cancellation of a common MCQ paper on which the merit list was to be prepared by the UGC. The Medical and Dental Sciences Standing Committee of the UGC decided upon a common MCQ paper instead of preparing the merit list based on the Z-score, following representations by Colombo medical students that former method was an injustice to them. However, the students claim subsequent to a filing of a court case by some medical students from other universities saying that they were not given adequate notification, stalled the implementation of the common paper, thus the UGC suddenly, without consulting the standing committee had cancelled the implementation of the MCQ paper. |
