The Vice Chancellor of the Eastern University Prof. M. S. Mookiah has resigned from his post. He has sent his resignation letter to the Prime Minister on January 28. He says in his letter that "due to personal reasons, in addition to pressure from students, I have resigned from my post as Vice Chancellor." This decision was taken by him, to avoid unnecessary conflict and disturbances in the University. Otherwise it may have caused difficulties to the functioning of the Eastern University which he wanted to avoid, states Prof. Mookiah. Tamil political parties in the North and East, however said that the so called 'students' referred in the Vice Chancellors letters are pointed to the LTTE. |
