SLMC to go it alone The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress is to go it alone and contest independently of the UNF, General Secretary of the SLMC Hasan Ali told the Daily News yesterday. CWC to go it alone? Political sources said yesterday that there was speculation that the Arumugam Thondaman led Ceylon Workers' Congress would contest the April General Elections independently of the UNF. SLFP-JVP leaders confer The SLFP and JVP leadership held a special discussion in Colombo for more than two hours yesterday to discuss the country's situation following dissolution of Parliament. They also exchanged views about forming a transparent Government responsible to the people in the event of their victory at the forthcoming General Election. A JVP press release states a team led by Media Minister and Senior Presidential Advisor Lakshman Kadirgamar and former Chief Opposition Whip and SLFP Media Spokesman Mangala Samaraweera participated on behalf of the SLFP, while JVP Leader Somawansa Amarasinghe, General Secretary Tylvin Silva and Propaganda Secretary Wimal Weerawansa represented the JVP. S.B. eagerly awaiting poll Samurdhi and Livestock Minister S.B. Dissanayake said yesterday in a press release, he was eagerly awaiting the snap general elections which the UNP, he said will win by a landslide. He however condemned the "arbitrary dissolution of Parliament" by the President. |
