Talking Point

A group of senior UNPers were seen huddled together in an animated discussion at Siri Kotha soon after attending the official ceremonies on Independence Day.

Ironically, the talking point in this cloistered tete - tete was the urgent need for a change in the leadership. They were of the view that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's image was now at a all time low with the breakdown in governance and his disastrous confrontation with the President.

According to political sources, this group had arrived at a consensus that Minister S.B. Dissanayake and Mahinda Wijesekera should not be nominated as candidates for the next election due to having brought the UNF government to disrepute.
