by Kandy North Group correspondent The Ministry of Central Region Development will hold a handicrafts exhibition from May 16 to 21 in Melbourne, Australia, said the Minister of Central Region Development Tissa Attanayake. He said so at a discussion held at the auditorium of the Ministry of Central Region Development in Gatambe, Kandy which was presided by the Minister Tissa Attanayake. Minister Attanayake said the objective for holding this exhibition is three-fold. They hope to promote the local handicrafts, tourism and to invite investors from Australia. The Minister of Tourism of the Central Province, the Central Region Investment Commission, the Ceylon Tourist Board and the National Craftsmen's Association will also play a major role in helping to hold this exhibition. He said that 15 leading handicraftsmen from Sri Lanka will participate and exhibit their products at this exhibition. There will also be a tourism promotional campaign by the Ceylon Tourist Board and a cultural exhibition to attract tourists to Sri Lanka. The Central Region Investment Commission will also hold talks with the Business sector in Melbourne with a view of inviting them to invest in various ventures in Sri Lanka. This is a very important exhibition and Sri Lanka and Central Region in particular stands to benefit tremendously. |
