A Royal-Thomian joint walk By Ananda Kannangara Two of the oldest schools in the country Royal College, Colombo and S. Thomas' College, Mt. Lavinia will for the first time hold a joint walk in Colombo on February 21. Caltex Lubricants Lanka Ltd. will sponsor the event. The objective of holding this Royal-Thomian joint walk is to commemorate the 125th Royal-Thomian cricket encounter and to display the solidarity between the two schools. A commemorative stamp was also issued yesterday to celebrate 125 years of Royal-Thomian cricket encounters. The Caltex's parent company Chevron Texaco will also celebrate its 125th anniversary in operation and this joint walk is certainly a coincidence to their global celebrations. The walk will commence at 3.30 pm from Royal College Junior gates. Participants will leave Royal College and arrive at the College Sports Complex to enjoy an evening of fun and entertainment. The walk will march on the routes of Flower Road, Green Path, Colpetty, Bambalapitiya, Thummulla Junction and Reid Avenue. A mini carnival will also be held at the Sports Complex premises till midnight. According to the Joint Organising Committee, members of both schools, present students of all age groups, parents, staff members and well-wishers are expected in great numbers at the walk. |
