Lankadeepa report false and misleading

The Presidential Secretariat yesterday denied a media report carried by a Sinhala weekly

which claimed President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga has sent a secret letter inviting LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran to a one on one discussion with her.

"This report is false and misleading the public," the Presidential Secretariat said in a statement referring to the report appeared which in the Irida Lankadeepa.

"The President has not been involved in any secret communication with LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran on the peace process," the statement said, adding that "the President is not prepared to have any secret agreement with the LTTE, where as it is Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe who signed a secret pact with the LTTE".The President stresses that any negotiation with the LTTE, when conducted will be transparent and no decisions will be taken in secret.
