Bloomfield limited over champs by Chris Dhambarage Bloomfield Cricket & Athletic Club completed a grand double when they clinched the Premier Division One limited overs title with an easy 189 run win over Colts Cricket Club in the final played at the R. Premadasa Stadium under lights yesterday. Bloomfield who recently won the Premier League Division One title completely dominated the final and outclassed their opponents in all departments of the game. Colts CC failed to put up any challenge in their run chase and were dismissed for just 110 runs in 28.3 overs. In fact the final turned out to be a one sided contest after Colts CC had slumped to 61 for 4 by the tenth over. After the two opening bowlers Dharshana Gamage and Farveez Maharoof had ripped through the Colts CC top order with some hostile bowling leg spinner Kaushal Lokuarachchi added the finishing touches with excellent figures of 3 for 15. He was well supported by occasional bowlers Tillekeratne Dilshan and Saman Jayantha. Earlier opener Saman Jayantha hammered a splendid 108 as Bloomfield piled up 299 for 7 from their 50 overs. The hard hitting right hander produced a tremendous batting display while stroking the ball to all parts of the ground in great style. He hoisted two sixes and struck eight fours and faced only 137 deliveries. He was also associated in a second wicket partnership of 138 runs with Thilina Kandambi and also added 99 runs for the third wicket with Tillekeratne Dilshan. However it was Thilina Kandamby who really set the tone for Bloomfield's massive total after they had lost opener Sanath Jayasuriya in the fifth over of the innings. Kandambi went after the bowling and collected his runs in his own style as he brought up his fifty in just 34 balls with one six and nine fours. The left hander really took the game away from Colts CC with a punishing kncok of 69 after they had won the toss and elected to bat first. The Bloomfield batting really came into their own during the latter stages with in form batsman Tillekeratne Dilshan scoring an unbeaten 63 off 62 deliveries. As a result Bloomfield collected 99 runs from the last 13 overs after they had reached 139 for 2 at the half way stage of the innings. Colts CC used as many as seven bowlers in an attempt to restrict the Bloomfield batsmen but apart from Chaminda Vaas the rest failed to make an impact bowling too many short deliveries. The winners Bloomfield received a cash award of Rs. 300,000 and the runners-up Colts CC received a cash award of Rs. 200,000. BLOOMFIELD S. Jayasuriya c Kaluwitharana b Vaas 6 S.
