Police investigate Vavuniya killings

The Vavuniya Police are conducting investigations into the killings of an unidentified man and a Tamil youth by unidentified gunmen on Sunday at two different locations.

According to sources an unidentified gunman has shot dead a man in a three wheeler at close range on Sunday night around 7.30 while he was proceeding in the 5th Mile Post area at Pandarikulam in Vavuniya.

The slain man in this three wheeler and his assassin have not yet been identified.

The Vavuniya Police also commenced investigation on Sunday into the killing of a twenty-five year old Tamil youth shot at close range while peddling a bicycle in an area close to the Hindu Kovil at Pattakadu in Veppankulam around 10.00 a.m.

Appeal for help

Miss Sarani Sakuntala Dayaratne (17) of 'Ajith' Higgashena, Kuruwita is suffering from

growth hormone deficiency following a brain tumour operation. Consultant Paediatrician Dr.

Nimal Fonseka has recommended her to be on DDAVP intra nasal desmopressin saying she may

need this drug for her entire life time.

Sarani's father K. S. D. Karawita, a school teacher says the drug is very costly. A phial with

a quantity sufficient for 22 days is nearly 3,500.

He says he is unable to find this money due to heavy indebtedness and requests

philanthropists and the public to support his daughter's cause by sending whatever the financial

contributions possible.

All contributions should be remitted to the account number 1020 5004 0523 at the Sampath

Bank (Eheliyagoda branch).

Protect this girl's life

R. D. T. Sandeepani, 3-year-old girl of No. 1/9 L S Waththa, Batakeththara, Piliyandala is suffering from an acute heart disease from the age of 9 months.

Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon Dr. Aruna Kapuruge at Jayawardenapura General Hospital has advised that urgent heart surgery should be performed immediately to save her life. the cost of this operation at Sri Jayawardhanapura hospital is estimated to cost Rs. 235,000 and 50% of this cost will be borne by the President's Fund.

Sandeepani's father is a labourer with 2 children and could not afford this money and requests the generous public to assist his daughter's urgent operation, by sending whatever financial contribution possible to Seylan Bank, Boralesgamuwa Branch -Account No. 034001407628 101.
