by Ranil Wijayapala The Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission office in Jaffna has begun investigations into a complaint by Jaffna Security Forces Commander Major General Susil Chandrapala regarding a threat to his life made by a member of the LTTE. "The Head of the Jaffna SLMM office met LTTE Peace Secretariat Chief S. Pulithevan on Sunday in Kilinochchi in this regard", SLMM Spokeswoman Agnes Bragadottir said. However, she declined to comment on the incident and said the SLMM was investigating the complaint. The Security Forces Commander in Jaffna, Major General Susil Chandrapala made a formal complaint to the SLMM on Saturday about an alleged death threat made by the LTTE member. According to reliable sources, Thangan, the Deputy Political Wing leader of the LTTE has made this threat at a meeting held in Chavakachcheri last week. He has remarked that the newly appointed Security Forces Commander will have to meet with the fate of Major General Hamangoda, Larry Wijeratna and Susantha Mendis if he tried to get close to Jaffna people. The LTTE assassinated Major General Hamangoda, Larry Wijeratne and Susantha Mendis who won the hearts of Jaffna people while serving as the Security Forces Commander in Jaffna during the war period. |
