Victoria chalets opened at Rajawella Course

by S. M. Jiffrey Abdeen, Kandy South Group Correspondent

The Victoria Golf and Country Resort unveiled its new identity with a multi million dollar expansion drive.

The golf course set on the banks of the Victoria Reservoir in Rajawella, Kandy also unveiled its new logo recently.

The opening of Victoria Chalets designed and built to international standards provides a long felt need in site accommodation for golfers using the green.

Director CEO of Victoria Golf and Country Resort Priyath Fernando said they did not want to confine to developing just a challenging golf course but wanted to put Sri Lanka on the golfing map by showcasing one of the world's most picturesque golfing resorts.

Fernando overlooks the resort's development drive together with its Director/General Manager and ex-planter, Tony Witham.

Victoria Golf Course was designed by renowned British Architect, Donald Steel and has been rated amongst the top 100 most scenic courses in the world.

Victoria will be marketed internationally under the cohesive new marketing strategy that seeks to harness its unique advantages as a golf resort in Sri Lanka.

The future developments envisaged include a swimming pool and an up market residential project to enhance the reputation of the resort. "We expect Victoria to offer a new impetus to the tourism industry in Sri Lanka as high spending golf and nature enthusiasts begin to fly into the country and endorse the resort as being among the very best in the world," Fernando said.

Victoria Golf and Country Resort, a brainchild of its founder chairman, the late Mark Bostock of John Keells bought the property in 1992 with the course opening in January, 1999.

The resort is owned and managed by Rajawella Holdings Limited.
