Chamath Fernando clarifies

With reference to our news item 'Audit queries cooked-up figures at ITN' which appeared on Page 1 of December 30, 2003, Deputy General Manager (Finance and Administration) of Independent Television Network Ltd., Chamath Fernando has written to us stating that allegations levelled against him in the news item are totally incorrect.

He also sent us three clarifications. First, he says that the actual profit figure provided by the auditors Messrs Hulugalle Samarasinghe & Co. is Rs. 17,358,922 and not Rs. 18 million as stated in our news item.

Secondly he says that the company during his presence had never signed any agreements with private contractors to produce teledramas.

Thirdly he says that due to the complicating situation in the organisation, "the Board of Directors of Independent Television Network Ltd., have granted" him special leave.
