We must rebuild society according to Buddhist values - ANCL Chairman

Lake House Chairman, Kesarralal Gunasekera helps a child cut the ribbon at the opening of the Lake House Pre-school on Tuesday at the Kirivehera premises.

For over 2000 years Buddhists in Sri Lanka customarily visited the temple before beginning landmark events in their life. As a result their lives were moulded according to Buddhist culture and values. Subsequent to foreign invasions people began to neglect Buddhist values and go after a false set of values propagated by alien forces.

The time has come to us to give up alien values and start rebuilding society according to Buddhism and Buddhist values, said Lake House Chairman, Kesarralal Gunasekera at the opening of the Lake House Pre-school on Tuesday at the Kirivehera premises.

ANCL Directors Karunaratne Paranavithana, Wijedasa Rajapaksa, Neeta Ratnapala, Chief Executive Officer, Tikiri Kobbekaduwa and Messrs Kumar Wethasinghe, B. A. Jinadasa, A. Amaradasa and Sunil Sendhanayake also participated.

ANCL Chairman Kesarralal Gunasekera said that he was very happy to complete the work on this project started by former Chairman Nalin Ladduwahetty.

The incumbent of the Kirivehera Raja Maha Vihara, Vinaya Keerthi Sri Upadya Ven. Dr. Aluthwewa Soratha Thera said that both the people and the Maha Sangha have understood that a Buddhist monk's service to society goes beyond conducting religious rituals at temples.

He said that the service rendered by Lake House to the Kirivehera dates back as far as 1965 when Lake House renovated the Kirivehera and brought its pinnacle in a motorcade from Colombo to the Kirivehera.

Ven. Bandagiriye Somawansa Thera, Director of National Children's Education Foundation said that Marie Montessori designed a system of education for disabled children.

But we have to design an education to suit our Sri Lankan children. It must be based on Buddhist teachings. So we have made this task and have trained these pre-school teachers in our foundation.

A large gathering participated on this occasion and Lake House provided the children with uniforms, books, furniture and also pays the wages of the teachers.
