Ethugalpura Motocross on December 28

The Rotary Club of Ethugalpura (Kurunegala) has organised a Ethugalpura Motocross 2003 in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Racing Riders Association and Sri Lanka Army Motor Sports Committee on December 28 at 9.00 a.m. on the defunct Kurunegala Lake.

At present the water of the lake has been pumped out to repair and reconstruct the lake. A special motocross track will be laid for the race.

The aim of organising the Ethugalpura Motocross 2003 is to collect funds for the proposed two storeyed Corner Graft Unit to be built in the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital premises. The estimated cost of the projet is Rs. 120 million.

The winner, first runner-up and the second runner-up will receive Rs. 25,000, Rs. 20,000 and Rs. 15,000 respectively.

At this final motocross meet for 2003 the overall winner with the highest number of points will receive a special prize of a Doelim VI-125 Daystar presented by Goldwing Motors of Narahenpita.

In addition to local riders the Rotary Club has invited a few motocross riders from India to take part in the event.

The following events have been included in the race.

Novices Street Trail up to 80cc, Novices Street Trail up to 125cc, Street Trail upto 125cc, Street Trail up to 250cc. Racing Motocross upto 85cc, Racing Motocross upto 125cc, Racing Motocross upto 250, Street Trail Open, Racing Motocross Open, Street Trail 4 Stroke Open, Kids under-9 automatic 60cc, Kids under-13 up to 80cc, Racing Motocross under-16 upto 85cc. Those details were revealed at a press conference held recently at the Mahaweli Centre, Colombo 7 under the patronage of the Minister of Mahaweli, Irrigation and Water Management, Gamini Jayawickrama Perera.

This event is held under the patronage of the Minister who is the adviser of the project.

The President of Sri Lanka Motor Racing Riders Association, Upali Dassanayake, The Chairman of Sri Lanka Army Motor Sports Committee, Maj. Gen. Ivan Dissnayake and President of Ethugalpura Rotary Club, Hildon Hamangoda were also present at the press conference.
