by Ranga Jayasuriya Scandinavian truce monitors investigating an alleged LTTE bunker set up in Pullimalai, Batticaloa the government controlled area said yesterday that it was a "firing position" and not a bunker. SLMM acting chief Hagrup Haukland said the truce monitors in Batticaloa have sent the headquarters a preliminary report on the newly constructed firing position adding the SLMM needs more time to rule whether the LTTE build up is a violation of the truce agreement. "We want more time for investigations to decide whether it is in the Government controlled area or not. Demarcation lines between the Government and LTTE controlled areas are not clear in the East," Haukland told the Daily News. A spokesman for the SLMM Batticaloa office said the local monitors have inspected the alleged LTTE position last week. "It was a firing position with some sand bags as protection," he said. He said a report on the alleged LTTE build up had been sent to the headquarters which will rule on the issue. Earlier police complained to the SLMM about the suspected LTTE build up in Pullimalai, Trincomalee. Police said an LTTE bunker had been built in the Government held area in violation of the Ceasefire Agreement. |
