Nine rebels, couple among 12 killed in Kashmir SRINAGAR, India, Friday (Reuters) Suspected rebels shot dead a couple in their house southeast of Kashmir's summer capital on Thursday, a police spokesman said. Police said the Muslim couple and nine rebels were among a dozen people killed in a day of separatist violence in Kashmir, where India and Pakistan began a truce last month along a military control line. The army ceasefire on the frontline has held so far, but rebel groups have said they will not observe the truce aimed at building on improved relations between nuclear-armed foes India and Pakistan. The two countries have fought two of their three wars over Kashmir since independence from Britain in 1947. |
