Focus for 'Win-Win' deal with Penang Sri Lanka is eyeing to establish a strong industrial and economic relations with Malaysia's silicon hub - Penang. Minister Enterprise Development, Investment Promotion, Industrial Policy and Constitutional Affairs Prof. G.L. Peiris during his recent visit to Malaysia has discussion with the Chief Minister of the State Tan Sri Dr. Koh Tsu Koon in this connection. The Chief Minister also pledged his active partnership to establish a strong relationship with Sri Lanka especially with regard to dispatching interested investors seeking opportunities for a 'Win-Win' situation. Prof. Peiris also paid a special attention on incentives and other facilities that are being provided by the State government to the potential investors in Penang which currently boast of having all the major electronic, software and hardware investors clusters in the Malaysian island. Dr. Koon. also offered training facilities for Sri Lankan officials at his Penang Development Council (PDC) - the operating arm of the highly industrialised state of Peneng. Prof. Peiris also addressed Penang based investors at the Ever Green Laurel Hotel. During the Luncheon Forum which was organised by the Sri Lanka High Commission, Prof. Peiris briefed the investors the economic and political situation in Sri Lanka inviting them to consider Sri Lanka as a investor's paradise. Penang is currently the world largest computer and software producer and it is connected with US and Bangalore on line with regard to manufacturing of computers. An order for a computer placed in the US is lodged in Bangalore and the manufacturing is done in Penang. The end product is at the doorstep of the customer within three days, Sri Lanka could be benefited by its highly skilled and motivated labour force. |
