Heart patient seeks help Wasanthi Jayamanna (23) of Medagama, Palagala in Palagala A.G.A's division is suffering from an acute heart disease. The doctors of the Apollo hospital have recommended an urgent heart surgery to save her life. The cost of the surgery is estimated at Rs. 4,10,000 lakhs. As Ms. Jayamanna has no steady income, she seeks the assistance from the public and donor organisations to undergo the surgery. Rodrigo of 268/B, Canal Road, Uswetakeiyawa is suffering from end stage renal disease and undergoing regular haemodialysis at the Sri Jayawardenapura Hospital for the last three months. Dr. C. A. Herath, Consultant Nephrologist treating her has recommended a kidney transplant to save her life. The operation to be done at the Madras Medical Mission Hospital, India, is estimated to cost Rs. 800,000 besides air ticket, board and lodging and other expenses for four persons. Rodrigo, Peoples Bank, Mid City Branch, Pettah. 10 years RI, Rs. 20,000 fine in cheating case by Sandasen Marasinghe Colombo High Court Judge Sarath Ambepitiya on Wednesday, convicted and sentenced a man for defrauding two persons in a sum of nearly one million rupees, to 10 years RI. The court also imposed a fine of Rs. 20 000 and in default, further two years of RI. The accused K. D. Soysa Siriwardane was charged on two counts: for fraudulently obtaining a sum of Rs. 275,000 from G. K. Jinadasa of Kirulapona in March, 1995 promising, to provide him with a vehicle imported from Japan and a sum of Rs. 600,000 from K. A. U. Laxman Alvis of Pelana in March 1995, promising him also to provide a vehicle. The court imposed a term of 5 years RI on the accused for each count which was to run concurrently and fined Rs. 10,000 on each count and in default, further one year's RI. |
