by Manjula Fernando Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe marks two years in office today. He was elected to office at the December 5, 2001 General Election. Cabinet spokesman Prof. G. L. Peiris said the Government's biggest achievement during the past two years was the Ceasefire agreement with the LTTE, putting an end to the 20-year-old bloodshed. The country is enjoying dividends of peace which has resulted in economic revival, expanding investment and tourism sectors, he told the weekly Cabinet briefing yesterday. Southern Development Minister Ananda Kularatne said the cabinet approved one of the biggest projects of the government yesterday, a US $ 1.6 billion major oil refinery project which included setting up of a power plant and an oil terminal project at Mirichchawila, Hambantota. |
