Samudra Cement consolidates its quality with ISO 9001:2000 Samudra Cement Company Lanka (Pvt.) Limited (SCCL), a subsidiary of Tokyo Cement Company (Lanka) Limited, with the most efficient and sophisticated cement terminal was certified for International Quality Management Systems certificate - ISO 9001:2000. The United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) accredited certification was awarded to the SCCL by Certification International (UK) Limited, through its local representative Quality International certification Services (Pvt) Limited at a function held at Trans Asia Hotel, Colombo. President, Sri Lanka Association for Quality Dr. Srilal de Silva said "Samudra will reach greater heights in production and marketing with their fully committed staff along with this international certification for Quality Management Systems". The Joint Managing Director Yanagihara expressed his confidence to look forward to achieving near zero defect standard similar to in Japan. Samudra Cement was awarded SLS - 107 last year and imported only from Indonesia, which is considered as one of the best manufacturers of quality cement in the world. The high quality limestone deposits of Indonesia confirm this fact. Before the ship being loaded in Indonesia, the manufacturers quality certificate and the independent test certificate of an accredited laboratory in Indonesia, are being obtained based on the pre-shipment samples. Once the shipment arrives at Colombo samples are drawn by to Sri Lanka Standards Institute and the Internal Laboratory of the group. Apart from these, every month a sample is tested at Industrial technologies Institute (ITI) for physical analysis and every quarter for chemical analysis. Samudra Cement Company has been selected by many major projects currently operating in Sri Lanka as the sole supplier of Cement due to its consistence in quality as well as dependability on service. These factors confirm the eligibility of adding this International Status. The SCCL is a subsidiary of Tokyo Cement Company (Lanka) Pvt Limited, which is a listed company at the Colombo Stock Exchange. Tokyo Cement is a joint venture between Mitsu Mining Limited, Japan and St. Anthony's Consolidated (Pvt) Limited, Sri Lanka, which markets Mitsu, Atlas and Henode brands of cement in Sri Lanka. |
