Series of religious observances to commemorate Most. Ven. Madihe Pannaseeha Mahanayaka Thera

A series of religious observances will be held at the Vajiraramaya, Bambalapitiya to commemorate the late Aggamahapandita Madihe Pannaseeha Mahanayaka Thera, The Supreme Head of the Amarapura Sangha Sabha. The commemorative religious observances will last four days beginning December 5 and culminate with a blood donation and sil campaign on Unduvap Fullmoon Day of (December 8) which marks the completion of three months since the passing away of the late Venerable Mahanayaka Thera.

On all four days, commemorative "Bodhi Poojas, "Dharmadeshanas" and "Pahan Poojas" will be conducted from 6.30 p.m. each day.

On Saturday December 6, an all night "Pirith Chanting"ceremony will take place followed by a morning meal alms-giving to 25 bhikkus at 7.00 a.m. on December 07. On December 08, the Unduvap Full-moon Day, the commemorative sil campaign program begins at 8.00 a.m. At 9.00 a.m. the blood donation program begins, followed by a health clinic the release of cattle condemned to death and distribution of books.

The entire commemorative program lasting four days is jointly organized by the Vajirarama Karyasadhaka Sabha, Vajirarama Dhamma School and Colombo West Buddhist Association under the patronage of Vajirarama Dhamma School Principal Ven.Kamburugamuwe Mahanaga Thera and Dayaka Sabha President Sirima Hegoda and Vajiraramaya Religious Affairs Organizer Kingsley Jayasinghe. The blood donation campaign on the Fullmoon Day will be conducted under the patronage of Ven. Naotunne Gunasiri Nayaka Thera, the Chief Viharadhipati of Vajiraramaya with the participation of a host of state dignitaries, the Dayaka Sabha, The Vajiraramaya Dhamma School, and Colombo West Buddhist Association. Susil Kasthriarachchi, J.P., will offer refreshments to the blood donors.
