A group of J’pura University lecturers numbering nearly 50 yesterday joined their fellow lecturer, Dr. N.A.A. Karunaratne, who is on a hunger strike demanding the removal of the University’s Vice-Chancellor. The lecturers and undergraduates refused to leave the university premises after it was declared closed by the Vice-Chancellor.

A group of Arts Faculty lecturers and a mass of Arts students refused to leave the Sri Jayawardenapura university grounds yesterday after it was declared closed by the university authorities fearing another clash.

Kinniya:

All parties eager to restore peace

The Presidential Secretariat and Defence Ministry attention has been drawn to media reports indicating that the Security Forces and the LTTE have begun joint operations against perpetrators of violence committed against Tamil and Muslim civilians in Trincomalee.
