Free uniform material distribution in January by Manjula Fernando The Education Ministry will start the distribution of free uniform material to schoolchildren from January 22. A spokesman for the Education Ministry said that nearly Rs.800 million will be spent to acquire white shirting material, blue trouser material and robe material for samaneras from China for next year. The ministry earlier made arrangements to buy 50 per cent of the full requirement from Kabool Lanka Ltd and import the balance from China. However, due to a workers strike at the Kabool Lanka factory the decision was revoked and Cabinet approval was taken recently to bring down the full quota from China to prevent a delay. Meanwhile, the school education ministry has also made arrangements to provide free uniform material for children gaining admission to Grade one in January 2004, together with the others. The parents of Grade one students can hand over their applications, acknowledged by the school principal, to the Grama Niladari of their area before January 15. The material will be distributed through the Provincial Secretariats. |
