Peterite junior cricket carnival It will be a historic occasion for cricket at St. Peter's when a junior cricket carnival for grades 3, 4 and 5 is held from November 21-24 at the College grounds. It is organised by the Cricket Board of the school. The sole objective of the holding the carnival is to spot talent and to nurture it from a very tender age. The tournament will comprise 10 overs a side and played with 10 players on each side. It will be carried through at each grade and at the final of each grade, awards will be presented by the chief guest Rev. Fr. Felician Ranjith Perera, rector of the school. Annual Ananda Colours Nite The annual Colours Nite of Ananda College will be held on November 25 from 4.15 p.m. at the Moore Hall, Ananda College under the distinguished patronage of Rear Admiral, S. P. Weerasekera. Bank of Ceylon - sports festival Bank of Ceylon Western Province (North) Office and its 38 Branches comprising of 1200 Staff members will hold their annual Sports Festival on 22nd (Saturday) of this month at St. Anthony's College Grounds, Wattala. This annual event is held with the aim of creating and renewing cordial relations among staff members. The Sports Festival will be held under the patronage of the Asst. General Manager, N.C.B. Ekanayake. The Chief Guest, S.N.P. Palihena, General Manager - BOC together with many more distinguished invitees will grace the occasion. St. John's - Group 'C' under 12 cricket champions St. John's College emerged Group 'C' champions in the under 12 tournament conducted by Sri Lanka schools cricket Association. The Johnians won a tournament for the first time in their under 12 history under the supervision of D.A.P. Dharmasiri and coached by Prefect of games H.G.P. Lakshman. Most outstanding players for St. Johns were M. Sheriffdeen and A. Divakar. They batted brilliantly in the tournament. They beat Veera Puranappu MV, Moratuwa. Lalith Athulathumadali M.V. Ratmalana . Veluvana College, Borella, Zahira College, Maradana in the finals they beat Carey Collge, Colombo by an innings and 49 runs at Railway grounds. Carey College 28 all out (M. Sheriffdeen 4/3, A. Divakar 4/11) St. John's 152 all out (Nadeera Madushan 29, M. Sheriffdeen 26). Carey 2nd Innings 76 all out. Matale Thomians - under 13 hockey champions A magnificent second half rally by St. Thomas College, Matale helped them to turn the tables on Christ Church College, Matale, to defeat them 3-2 in the finals and become all island schools under 13 hockey champions in the first ever tournament organised by the Sri Lanka Schools Hockey Association in conjunction with the Matale District Schools Hockey Committee and played at Edward Park, Matale. At halt time it was Christ Church College who led 2-0. Two goals in the initial half by skipper and centre forward S. Nandalochana put the Christ Church team ahead in the first half but complacency led them not to consolidate on this lead. But after the turn around the Thomains changed their game plan and spearheaded by their skipper and centre forward Pushpitha Weerakkody, who scored a hat - trick of goals, they went on the rampage to clinch the issue in their favour. M. Boteju and S. Dissanayake umpired. In the losers finals Dharmaraja College beat Zahira College, Matale 1-0. In the quarter finals Dhamaraja beat Vajaya 2-0 on penalty strokes. St. Thomas Matale beat Nalanda 2-1, Christ Church beat Ananda College, Colombo 1-0. Zahira College, Matale beat St. Benedicts College, Colombo 1-0. In the semifinals St. Thomas College beat Dharmaraja College 1-0, and Christ Church College beat Zahira College 2-0. This was a three day tournament and at the opening ceremony Deputy Zonal Director of Education, Matale W.M. Wickremaratne was the Chief Guest.In the closing ceremony Zonal Director of Education, Matale, K.G. Muthubanda was the Chief Guest and distributed the awards. |
