Sri Lanka Amateur Open Golf C'ships begins on November 22

The 112th Sri Lanka Open Amateur Golf Championship, will tie off at the Sri Lanka's celebrated Golf club Course, Nuwara Eliya November 22. at 6. a.m. with golfers from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka participating - Elaborate arrangements, including Hotel accommodations have been arranged for this championship, which is jointly organised by the Sri Lanka Golf Union and the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club, the championship will continue till 29th November, where the prize giving will take place.

The foreign players will arrive in Nuwara Eliya on 21st November, the foreign participants are taking part in the championship, after a lapse of almost four years. The Sri Lankan golfers specially the young and upcoming players, selected out of the Caddies will give a stiff fight against the fancied foreign players this time.

In this year's championship, a large number of participants, including veterans, Ladies will vie for the championships in the different categories. The Nuwara Eliya Golf course in its excellent conditions, and all thanks go to the Course workers, the Caddy Master Sunil Shantha, Course Supervisor P. Sigamany, the staff under the close supervision by the Secretary of the club Clive Tissera, and the President N.U.G. de Silva, who have been working round the clock, to turn the Golf Links into the present magnificent conditions.

The main events are as follows:

22nd 23rd November, Dudley Senanayake Trophy,

Levers Shield, Levers Cup, R. C. G. C. Trophy, Senior Trophy, 26th, 27th, 28th and 29th, Amateur Championship, International Team Event.

On 29th November, at 2 p.m. the Prize Giving.

With the introduction of the Amphibian Aircraft by the Air Lankan airlines into Nuwara Eliya and other destinations, at the initiatives of Mayor of Nuwara Eliya Chandana Karunaratne, several tourists are expected to travel to Nuwara Eliya by Air during this Golfing Season.
