President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga has validated the extended terms of service granted to the following officers of the Sri Lanka Army.

Major General L. C. R. Goonewardene RSP USP ndc IG, Major General S. H. S. Kottegoda WWV RWP RSP USP ndc, Major General A. M. C. W. B. Seneviratne USP psc, Major General G. S. C. Fonseka RWP RSP psc, Major General M. D. S. Chandrapala RWP RSP USP psc, Major General N. Mallawaarachchi RWP USP psc and Major General D. S. K. Wijesooriya RWP RSP USP psc.

These extended terms of service covers only a period of one year or until they reach 55 years of age whichever occurs earlier. Their extended terms of service became invalid due to recent Supreme Court rulings a Defence Ministry release states.
