Kegalle special corr. An unusual passenger which had climbed on board a Rambukkana-Kegalle school service private bus on Wednesday and travelled without a ticket under a seat created pandemonium among the schoolchildren. The hooded passenger had crawled into the bus while the driver and conductor had stopped for a cup of tea at a village boutique, before picking up the children from school. The intruder was noticed by a teacher seated in the front of the bus, who felt something tugging at her saree. She shrieked in terror as the hooded apparition raised its ugly head, hissing and puffing its way towards the children. As the terrified children, the teacher and the conductor scrambled to jump out of moving bus, trying to avoid the deadly gaze of a killer, the driver stopped the engine and came to the rescue of his passengers, club in hand. No sooner the bus was stopped, his charges raced to the door and ran helter skelter. Determined to fight the slimy brute, the driver snared it from under a seat and dealt a massive blow on the head that literally stopped it dead on its tracks. At his feet lay, very dead, the huge cobra that had slithered into the bus and created bedlam. He then rounded up his frightened passengers and started the journey again. |
