The National Construction Association of Sri Lanka in a letter addressed to the President and the Prime Minister has requested them to set aside political differences and join hands to steer the country towards prosperity. The letter signed by Association Chairman, D. D. Wijemanne has said the two main political parties and other parties represented in Parliament should not in any way permit a disruption of the path to peace, security and economic growth. All sectors of the economy had suffered a great deal in the past two decades with members of the industrial and business community struggling to keep their institutions intact amidst great odds. The economy had been gaining momentum recently and a massive amount of aid had been pledged by the donor community to rebuild the country. This process should not be undermined. Sri Lanka would have a chance to become an emerging economy and bring prosperity to the entire populace if the powers who have been entrusted with the task of guiding the destiny of this nation set aside political interests and sit down and reconcile their differences for a joint endeavour to take the country forward, the Association said. |
