Maldivian under 17 team to tour Sri Lanka N. U. Abdul Razzak reporting from the Maldives The under 17 Cricket team of Maldives will make a ten day tour of Sri Lanka at the invitation of the Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Tyronne Fernando who was in Male' to attend the inauguration of President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom's 6th term in Office. The Maldivian team will play five matches of thirty overs with the schools drawn from the Colombo South Cricket Federation. In addition to the matches the cricketers will participate at coaching sessions to be conducted by reputed Coaches of Sri Lanka. The visiting team is expected to play one of the matches at the Tyronne Fernando Stadium which is being refurbished. The Sri Lankan Minister also pledged assistance to the Maldivian Cricket foundation such as administration, maintaining playing fields and so on. This magnanimous act will certainly help cement the existing bilateral relations and sporting ties between Maldives and Sri Lanka. |
