by Ranga Jayasuriya LTTE theoretician Anton Balasingham will be back soon. He is planning to visit the Vanni next January, LTTE sources said. LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran is now in touch with his ailing theoretician over the current political turmoil, sources added. "Balasingham has been consulted over the political crisis and the suspension of Norwegian facilitation. We are evaluating their impact on the peace process." He said Balasingham had been consulted when the Tigers worked out their proposals for an interim self governing authority. Balasingham is now helping Prabhakaran to prepare his "Mahaveer" (heroes day) speech on November 27. The LTTE pointed to Balasingham's deteriorating health, when he was replaced with Tigers' political chief Thamilselvam in June to handle the LTTE's peace strategies. But speculation was rife at the time that Balasingham was sidelined due to his flexible way of dealing with the Government's peace negotiators. Balasingham's deteriorating health forced peace talks to be shifted to Berlin and Oslo in order to cut his travel time. However, LTTE sources now say that Balasingham, a kidney and heart patient with a transplanted kidney, has recovered "significantly" during past few months. "He will be able to play an active role in the future peace negotiations, hopefully when the talks resume," he said. "He will visit the Vanni next January. He and Prabhakaran will map
out our future strategies."
