Police SC clinch Scanwell Trophy The Sri Lanka Police Sports Club clinched the Scanwell Challenge Trophy at the Veterans 10-a-side Touch Rugby Tournament held at the CR and FC grounds on Sunday the 16th in front of a large crowd. The Police beat the much fancied Old Zahirians and Isipatana combined by 26 points to 5 in the final. Seven teams took part in this tournament. CR & FC, Police SC, Puffins RFC, Army SC, Jawatte Lions, Old Zahirians and Isipatana Combined, and Old Peterites. Police had a grand tournament by beating all five clubs they locked horns. They beat Old Peterites 42-nil, Army 35 to 7, Puffins 31-nil, Jawatte Lions 33-nil and in the finals Old Zahirians and Isipatana Combined 26 points to 5. The former ace kicker and Sri Lanka fly-half Nizam Jamaldeen scored overall points of 59 in this tournament. The chief guest was Group Captain Nalin de Silva (Secretary SLRFU) and this tournament was conducted by the Western Province Rugby Football Union initiated by Fazal Mohamed (President WPRFU) and his deputy Wimal Senanayake. |
