Taiwanese here to seek investment opportunities

Colombo (Lankapuvath) More than 70 Taiwanese investors led by Mark Liao, Chairman of Shinin Silica Corporation of Taiwan is now in the country to find out investment opportunities here.

Head Liao told Lankapuvath that he and his 70 member business group along with several others from various companies in Taiwan are ready to invest US $ 6 billion during the first four years of their entry to the market. Liao said they would like to invest in highways, agriculture, energy, tourism and other sectors and they will bring in the latest technology available in Taiwan to those sectors in Sri Lanka and blend it with human and natural resources to create value added products and services.

Meanwhile, a Commerce and Consumer Affairs Ministry spokesman said Sri Lanka is looking for investment to consolidate the current peace process and also to reduce unemployment rate. He said the country also has an internationally compliance banking system while investment is guaranteed by its constitution, not forgetting the skilful workforce.

The Taiwan business group will be in the country until November 21.
