PA, JVP say Speaker calling meeting against Constitution

by Chamikara Weerasinghe

The parliamentarians of the joint opposition, PA and JVP, has said in a letter to Speaker Joseph Michael Perera that his calling to attend the Parliament meeting was against the Constitution.

They said this on being asked why they did not respond to the calling of the Speaker to attend the Parliament meeting.

"It would have been appropriate for the UNF to make a request from President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge to re-summon it as it was her decision to prorogue it," they said.
