Maharagama special correspondent Vehelle Piyathilake A Sri Lankan handicrafts exhibition and trade fair organised by the National Craft Council (NCC) was held on October 25, 26 and 27 at the Music Museum gallery of Stockholm, Sweden. To introduce Sri Lankan handicraft to the international mass and to provide opportunities to the craftsmen, we have organized this exhibition and the trade fair in Sweden. Our Sri Lankan craftsmen had a good bargain at the fair. The response of the Swedish people towards our handicrafts is encouraging. According to our two year plan we wish to organise more and more exhibitions and trade fairs in many other countries in the future in view of encouraging our handicraftsmen", said the Chairman of the National Crafts Council Dr. Buddhi Keerthisena at an interview with Daily News. The state dancing troupe performed a variety show with Udarata. Pahata Rata and Sabaragamuwa dances. They were highly appreciated by the Swedish People", the Deputy Director Dayasiri Lumbias told the Daily News. The Sri Lankan ambassador in Sweden V.K. Watson 2nd Secretary Rissvi Hussain were also present at the opening ceremony of the exhibition. |
