by Ananda Kannangara The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) yesterday confirmed that no Sri Lankan expatriate workers employed in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia were killed in the bomb blast that occurred in the early hours on Saturday. Quoting a report from Sri Lankan Ambassador in Riyadh Ibrahim Ansar, the Bureau revealed that only four Lankan female workers, employed as housemaids in a housing complex which is located 10 KM from the city of Riyadh received minor injuries in the bomb blast. "Out of the four injured only one worker Suneetha Jayakody who needed urgent medical attention was admitted to a Riyadh hospital and she too was discharged from the hospital the same day considering the condition of the injuries," Chairman SLBFE Susantha Fernando told the Daily News yesterday. A resident of Kobeigane, Kurunegala Suneetha had found employment in Riyadh through the SLBFE several months ago and since then she has been employed in a housing complex as a housemaid. Fernando also said that on the directive of Employment and Labour Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe, the Bureau continuously contacted the Sri Lankan Embassy officials in Riyadh to get more details on the four injured Lankan workers with the objective of bringing them down to Sri Lanka on Bureau expense if necessary. |
