Recognition for Institute of Personnel Management in Philippines

by Ramani Kangaraarachchi

Sri Lanka received wide recognition in Human Resource Management recently when the Institute of Personnel Management, Sri Lanka (IPM) was elected the Asia Pacific Federation of Human Resource Management (APFHRM) President at the meeting in Philippines.

This also led Sri Lanka to become a board member of the World Federation of Personnel Management Associations.

This is the first time IPM Sri Lanka was elected for this prestegious post out of 14 member countries in the region. IPM President Janaka Kumarasinghe is due to take over the presidency from Les Picket of Australia soon.

"This appointment will be a very good opening for Sri Lankans in human resource management in the future because we cannot survive being isolated in this field as in any other field. That is why Sri Lanka undertook to organise exchange programmes and accreditations at the conference", Kumarasinghe said.

He said many people in Sri Lanak resort to strikes and protest campaigns to win their demands and this is where the services of HR professionals come in to resolve national HR issues. He is hopeful that IPM can meet this challenge in the future.

A press conference was held at Hotel Intercontinental, Colombo to declare this honour where Minister of Employment and Labour Mahinda Samarasinghe spoke about the national importance of this achievement.
