by Sarath Malalasekera Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Bodhi Liyanage assumed duties as Senior DIG Ranges II from November 8, 2003. Ranges two includes the Southern Range, Central Range West, Central Range East, Sabaragamuwa Range and Uva Range. Senior DIG Liyanage, an old boy of Mahinda College, Galle graduated from the Colombo University in 1972 and joined the Police as a Probationary ASP on August 1, 1974. He was promoted SP on August 1, 1983, Senior SP on January 1, 1989, Deputy Inspector General of Police on July 13, 1993 and Senior DIG on September 7, 2003. Liyanage was the first Commandant in the Special Task Force (STF). As SP he served in Trincomalee, Kandy and as Senior SP in Kandy and Matale. As DIG, he served in all parts of the country including Kandy, Kurunegala, Western Province South, North Central Range, Eastern Range, Recruitment, Wanni, Jaffna, Southern Range, Ombudsman and Colombo Range. Widely travelled, Liyanage had followed a number of courses in UK, Australia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore and Brussels. He was the president of the Sri Lanka Football Association for two years. He is the Chairman of the Police Tennis Club and President of the Kandy Football League. While Liyanage was in charge of the Colombo Range, he had set-up several vigilant committees including the Pettah Vigilant Committee with the assistance of the Pettah Police. This Vigilant Committee granted 250 scholarships to underprivileged children in the Pettah Police area. |
