by Anjana Gamage The National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) officials along with the CID detected five children preparing to escape to Vienna from the Bandaranaike International Airport last week. Three Chinese nationals including a woman were also taken into custody along with the children aged between five to 12 when they were ready for boarding. Investigations revealed that the suspects' passports were forged. The suspects produced before Additional District Judge M. N. Burhan of the Negombo High Court were remanded until November 18. The suspects claimed that some children were in a room of a leading hotel in Colombo. Later, the NCPA officials found a girl and a boy aged six and eight in the hotel room. According to sources, the children had been sexually abused. |
