Dissanayake Jayakody, 28, injured in the Riyadh bomb blast on Saturday night was praised by her sponsor for picking his children even after she was injured. Jayakody told the Daily News that the sponsor and his wife were not at home during the blast. "Only two children were home. I rushed out of the house carrying both children in my arms even after I was injured," she said. Jayakody who hails from Kurunegala has been working here for the past one year. The housemaid was admitted to hospital after she fainted following injuries as a result of the blasts. Labour Welfare officer M. M. Jiffry rushed to the hospital where the maid was admitted on instructions from Sri Lankan Ambassador Ibrahim Sahib Ansar. Few hours after admission, Jayakody was discharged and the embassy official handed over the maid to the sponsor. The ambassador said he was happy that Labour Welfare Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana and SLBFE chairman Susantha Fernando were anxious to know the situation of the Sri Lankans in Riyadh when they heard the news about the blast. The Saturday night blasts came after gunmen broke into the al-Muhaya compound of about 200 houses and exchanged fire with security guards, officials said. Eleven people were killed and more than 100 injured in the blast. |
