Mercantile Bowling c'ships at Fingara

by Richard Dwight

The highly sophisticated, exclusive Fingara Town and Country Club, away from the madding crowd, tucked in the quiet outskirts of Nugegoda on the Old Kesbewa road, will be the venue for the Mercantile Bowling Championship which begins today and goes on to the 15th of November.

The tournament will proceed in an atmosphere of grandeur, provided by modern facilities, that has to do with the promotion of Physical fitness by a club that is mainly open to executives and officials with a video arcade and library lined up.

There will be 50 teams taking part with the main contenders being Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation, Aitken Spence Phone Company, Yalta and Silkot Trading.

In the first round each team will be allowed 2 games that may include Men, Women and Children - of this 24 highest scoring teams will go into the second round and classified into A and B group. The top two from each group that is 4 teams will enter the finals.

The cash awards range from Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 25,000 with the awarding of the Fingara Mercantile Annual Trophy, this does appear to be an ideal location for the nationals as well.
