Treasury allocation given to MRRR fully utilized Payment of compensation to the victims of the North is one of the main functions of the Ministry of Rehabilitation, Resettlement & Refugees. The treasury allocation to the Ministry for this year, for the payment of compensation, which was Rs. 57.5 Million has been fully utilized. 801 persons (public Servants & General public) have been paid under various compensation schemes implemented up to August 2003. The Ministry submitted a Cabinet memorandum seeking further funds to pay compensation to 9,700 processed applications. A further 25,000 applications are being processed presently by the Government agents. According to the caseload the requirement stands at Rs. 1,855 Million. The Ministry is still awaiting the release of these funds requested to meet the payment of compensation for the outstanding applications. The Ministry would resume the payments due, no sooner the funds are released. The details of compensation payments made with the treasury allocation for 2003, and the details prepared by the Ministry that gives the particulars of cases and amount required as per the compensation payments states the Minister of Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Refugees in a press release. |
