President to open five protection gates

The five protection gates made of gold and silver to the Sri Maha Bodhi with Rs. 6 million funds provided by the President on the request of North Central Province Chief Sanghanayaka Atamasthanadhipathi Venerable Pallegama Siriniwasa Nayaka Thera will be opened by President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga on December 1.

More than 5,000 devotees will participate in a Dana, Seela and Bhavana programme.

The organising committee will provide all facilities to over 50,000 participants expected to attend the ceremony.

The ceremony is organised by North Central Governor Dr. Jagath Balasuriya and North Central Chief Minister Berty Premalal Dissanayaka under the patronage of Venerable Pallegama Siriniwasa Thera.

It will be held as a State festival and a special meeting was recently held by Governor Balasuriya at the Chief Ministry auditorium to organise the event successfully.

Several Nayaka Theras headed by the Atamasthanadhipathi Pallegama Siriniwasa Thera, Provincial Governor Dr. Jagath Balasuriya and other political leaders, police officers headed by the North Central DIG Jayantha Gamage and other officials participated.
