SriLankan opens newest ticketing office in Trincomalee SriLankan Airlines' newest ticketing office was opened recently in Trincomalee, the ninth major town in Sri Lanka (other than Colombo) to which the national carrier is extending complete services. "SriLankan has made a well-planned effort to support the government's peace efforts, and this year we have opened ticketing offices in Batticaloa, Jaffna and Trincomalee. Our Vavuniya office will open before the end of the year," said G. T. Jeyaseelan, Head of Commercial at SriLankan. Many residents of the North and East are frequent international air travellers, since they have relatives in Europe or India. The airline has been expanding its network throughout the island in recent times, and already has ticketing offices in Colombo, Kandy, Galle, Kurunegala, Ratnapura, Badulla and Dambulla, the result of a strategy of ensuring that customers in the outstations should not have to travel all the way to Colombo for ticketing matters. "Trincomalee has been a port of call on the world map for centuries, with its magnificent natural harbour and lush surroundings. It is only fitting that its citizens now have all of our services at their doorstep, and the new office is in a convenient location in the town," said Ranil Wagiswara, Country Manager Sri Lanka. The fully computerized office, which is operated through St. Lourdes Travels (Pvt) Ltd, provides all facilities and services of a SriLankan Ticketing office, including ticketing, reservations, reconfirmations, issuing of PTAs, handling special requests, and providing information on fares, schedules and packages. An office in Trincomalee will also support the airline's plans to extend air taxi operations to this town which is slated to become a much sought after tourist destination on account of its beautiful beaches. SriLankan plans to begin air taxi operations from the Bandaranaike International Airport to major tourist destinations in the island. It is envisaged that air taxis will be attractive to tourists from the higher end of the market, whom SriLankan wishes to encourage to its homebase. A network of offices around the island will thus also support the airline's proposed air taxi operations. The Trincomalee office was ceremonially opened recently by Jeyaseelan, Wagiswara and Inga Rodrigo, Sales Manager Passenger (Sri Lanka). |
