Tokyo Cement recently installed a new cement processing system in their plant in Trincomalee. Named a Combi Grinding Roller Press Pre Grinder, this new machine, will double the capacity of the plant. A hi-tech, efficiency improving and energy saving methodology, this machine also gives higher strength to the end product, when compared to cement manufactured through conventional milling, a company source said.

Traditionally, the raw material, i.e. clinker and gypsum, are fed to the ball mill in order to produce cement. With the new system, clinker and gypsum are pre-ground, before reaching the conventional ball mill, ensuring enhanced molecular fracturing. This in turn, provides maximum surface area for bonding, which is a key factor in strengthening the cement produced.

The fully automated and upgraded, state-of-the-art cement manufacturing plant, boasts of German technology and know how, which incorporates the latest developments in global trends in cement manufacturing.

This Rs. 750 million investment, which would double Tokyo Cement's capacity from 300,000 to 600,000 metric tons, was funded entirely through reserves of the company. In terms of the entire group, it would increase the collective capacity from the previous 600,000 to 900,000 metric tons.

Tokyo Cement is now ready to meet the increasing demand for all the cement required for local consumption, thereby reducing the importing of cement. Moreover this new cement processing system saves electricity cost by 25%, as well as increase efficiency, with no extra costs involved in terms of administration and related matters.
