Govt. has allocated Rs. 2,000m to improve rural electricity supply - PM

We have started numerous employment generating projects for the benefit of our youth to reap the full benefits of the peace process, numerous development projects will be initiated in the future which will be beneficial to the country said Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. He made these observations at a meeting held at Tangalle to coincide with the conducting of 'Janahamuwa', house to house campaign in the Hambantota District.

The objective of holding the house to house campaign was to educate people on future progressive activities that the Government plans to launch for the country.

Earlier, the Premier visited Katuwana and Weeraketiya in the Mulkirigala electorate and met the people of various organisations to discuss their day to day problems.

The problems mainly related to the construction of roads and the scarcity of water. The Premier also assisted the youth in the district that measures have been taken for the establishment of industrial projects and for the development of tourism in the South.

He said that during the two years, the Government was able to control unnecessary expenditure due to the Ceasefire Agreement. The ceasefire has not only helped us reduce expenditure but it has also diverted a colossal sum of money for development purpose.

The Prime Minister said, the Government has allocated Rs. 2,000 million to improve the rural electricity supply.

"We have also allocated money to construct the country entire highway network and also develop the tourism industry.

Highlighting the progress of the "Youth Brigade Programme", the Premier outlined that job orientation programmes have already started countrywide to train youth.

We also started a massive job placement programme for the benefit of unemployed graduates too. "Under the programme, we are confident that the unemployed graduates problem can be solved within the two years.

The Premier said that the Government has also focused its attention. The development of self employment sector by giving loans to start self employment projects.

MP Gayantha Karunatillake said that the Prime Minister has started projects for the benefit of youth and this has been amply proved by the youth brigade programme which has already started to train youth in various employment sectors.

Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris said that the bankruptcy of the Opposition can be seen with the No-Confidence Motion, they brought against the Prime Minister.

He also said that the Government has recorded a 5.8% economic growth rate due to the good management and progressive.

He also assured that the LTTE would submit their proposal before the end of few months and thereafter both the Government and the LTTE with the help of Norway and other countries will work for a permanent solutions.
