Curfew re-imposed in Kinniya

by Trincomalee Group corr.

Police re-imposed the curfew in Kinniya yesterday afternoon following renewed tension in the Muslim majority town, Police said.

"Curfew was imposed 1.30 pm as a precautionary action to avoid tension going out of control," a spokesman for the China Bay police said. He said angry Muslim crowds took to the streets after Thursday night's curfew was lifted yesterday morning, which compelled police to re-impose the curfew indefinitely

A Police curfew was clamped down on Thursday afternoon after Muslims staging a hartal against the LTTE went on the rampage.
